The films in this program are meditative, magical, perplexing, possessed by demons, or have been staged as a dizzying nightmare or like some card trick. With all of them experimental photo animations utilizing photographs as their source material. They are edited playfully yet with mathematical calculation, so that astonishing illusions of movement are generated. Today's merging together of the image producing devices becomes apparent in these Japanese works. The decision whether to take a photo or shoot film is systematically explored, with the moving and non-moving edited alongside and into each other at one and the same time.
